At Blowers Green, we believe in empowering our pupils to become confident, responsible, and active members of our school community. Our Junior Leadership Team (JLT) plays a vital role in helping to shape school life and give children a voice in decision-making.
The JLT is made up of enthusiastic and committed pupils from across Key Stage 2 who are elected by their peers. They meet regularly to discuss ideas, plan events, and work on projects that support our school values and enhance the experience for all pupils.
What Does the Junior Leadership Team Do?
- Organises whole-school events such as Eid Fayres, charity coffee mornings, and awareness days
- Represents pupil views and shares feedback with school leaders
- Promotes inclusion, kindness, and respect across the school
- Supports fundraising efforts for local and national charities
- Welcomes visitors and helps with school tours
Being part of the JLT helps learners develop leadership, teamwork, and communication skills. It also gives them a sense of pride and ownership in making Blowers Green the best it can be.

At Blowers Green Primary, we believe that a safe and supportive environment is essential for every child to thrive. That’s why we’re proud to introduce our team of Health and Safety Officers—pupil leaders who take on a vital role in promoting both physical safety and mental well-being across the school.
These responsible pupils work alongside staff to monitor key areas of health and safety, ensuring that our school remains a secure and welcoming place for everyone. From checking playground equipment to reporting hazards, they are proactive and vigilant in their duties.
But their role goes beyond physical safety. Our Health and Safety Officers are also passionate advocates for mental health and emotional well-being. They help to promote kindness, inclusion, and peer support, and are always on hand to listen and help others feel safe and valued.
Recent Initiatives
The team has already made a meaningful impact:
- They have written to the local council to raise concerns about the overgrown trees around the school perimeter, which are now posing a potential safety risk. Their letter reflects their commitment to keeping the school grounds safe for all.
- They have also contacted Young Minds, a mental health charity we work closely with, to request a new Friendship Bench, a simple but powerful tool to support pupils who may be feeling lonely or in need of a friend. This initiative highlights their understanding of how small changes can make a big difference to well-being.
What Else Do They Do?
Our Health and Safety Officers also:
- Help promote mental health awareness days and support school-wide campaigns.
- Encourage pupils to use safe and respectful behaviour in shared spaces.
- Monitor quiet zones and well-being areas during break times.
- Support staff in conducting safety checks and reporting concerns.
- Act as peer listeners, helping classmates feel heard and supported.
These pupils are role models of responsibility, empathy, and leadership. Their work helps ensure that Blowers Green remains a place where every child feels safe, supported, and ready to learn.

We are delighted to share that our Junior Leadership Team successfully planned and hosted a vibrant Eid Fayre for the whole school community. The event was a joyful celebration of culture, unity, and learning.
The Fayre featured:
- Traditional games and fun activities
- Sweet treats enjoyed by all
- Henna art, which was a big hit with pupils and staff
- Music that brought energy and excitement to the day
- Pupils and staff proudly wore cultural clothing, showcasing the rich diversity within our school
It was a fantastic opportunity for everyone to come together, celebrate Eid, and learn more about its significance. The Junior Leadership Team demonstrated excellent planning, teamwork, and leadership throughout the event.

Our Junior Leadership Team proudly organised a Macmillan Coffee Morning to raise vital funds in support of Macmillan Cancer Support.
Thanks to the generosity of our school community, we were able to raise important funds to help Macmillan continue their incredible support for individuals and families facing cancer.
A huge thank you to everyone who donated, attended, and helped make the event a success. We are proud of our Junior Leadership Team for their initiative, compassion, and excellent organisation. We’re thrilled to share that our Macmillan Coffee Morning raised an incredible £305.33!
This Harvest season, our whole school came together to support the Black Country Foodbank, donating a generous collection of essential items to help families in need across our local community.
Every class contributed, and the response was truly heartwarming. From tins and packets to toiletries and treats, the donations reflected the kindness and compassion of our school family.
To mark the occasion, Year 6 led a thoughtful and informative class assembly, helping us all understand the importance of giving, especially during times of need. Their presentation highlighted how our contributions make a real difference and reminded us of the values of empathy and community.

Blowers Green Primary School was delighted to welcome MP Sonia Kumar for a special visit, where she met with our Junior Leadership Team to discuss her role and how she can support our school and local community.
Ms Kumar, who serves as a Labour backbencher in the Houses of Parliament, spoke passionately about her responsibilities in representing constituents and contributing to national debates. She shared insights into life at Westminster and the importance of listening to local voices, especially those of young people.
Our Junior Leadership Team posed a series of thoughtful and challenging questions, ranging from national policy to local concerns. Ms Kumar responded with honesty and enthusiasm, encouraging pupils to stay engaged with civic life and reassuring them that their voices matter.
Importantly, Ms Kumar pledged her ongoing support for Blowers Green, including lobbying the local council on pressing issues such as speeding cars on Blowers Green Road, which has been a growing concern for our school community.

Our school proudly took part in Bright for Sight Day, a vibrant event dedicated to raising awareness and support for individuals living with visual impairments.
Pupils and staff dressed in bright, bold colours, filling the school with energy and positivity. The day was not only fun but deeply educational, helping children understand the challenges faced by those with sight loss.
We were honoured to welcome staff from the Beacon Centre for the Blind, who worked with Year 6 on a series of engaging and insightful activities, including:
- Writing names in Braille
- Using visual impairment simulation glasses
- Exploring tools and techniques used by people with sight loss
These hands-on experiences gave pupils a powerful understanding of visual impairment and the importance of accessibility and inclusion.
