Supporting Charities

As part of our whole-school initiative where each class supports a different charity, Reception children at Blowers Green have chosen to support the Ehlers-Danlos Support UK charity.

Through age-appropriate activities, the children have been learning about what Ehlers-Danlos syndromes are and how they affect people’s lives. They’ve taken part in:

• Storytime and discussions about helping others
• Creative activities to raise awareness
• Fundraising efforts with the help of families and staff

This experience helps our youngest pupils begin to understand empathy, kindness, and the importance of community support. We are proud of their enthusiasm and the meaningful start they’ve made in learning through giving

Year 1 at Blowers Green Primary School are proudly supporting the RSPCA – a charity dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming animals in need.

The children have been learning about animal welfare and the important work the RSPCA does to protect pets and wildlife. Their activities have included:

• Reading stories and watching videos about caring for animals
• Creating posters to raise awareness
• Planning fundraising events with help from staff and families
• Welcoming visitors to talk about animal care and kindness

This project helps our pupils develop empathy, responsibility, and a deeper understanding of how we can all help protect animals. We’re proud of Year 1’s enthusiasm and commitment to making a difference.

Year 2 at Blowers Green Primary School are proudly supporting the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) – a global charity working to protect endangered species and preserve the natural environment.

The children have been learning about wildlife conservation, climate change, and how small actions can make a big difference. Their activities have included:

• Researching endangered animals and creating fact files
• Designing posters to raise awareness
• Taking part in eco-friendly challenges
• Planning fundraising events to support WWF’s vital work

This project helps pupils develop a strong sense of environmental responsibility and global citizenship. We’re proud of Year 2’s passion and commitment to protecting our planet.

Building Global Connections with The Gambia

As part of our class charity initiative, Year 3 at Blowers Green Primary School have formed a special partnership with charity Partnerships in the Gambia. This exciting link is helping pupils learn about global citizenship, cultural exchange, and the importance of education around the world.

To support their partner school, Year 3 have:

• Learned about life and learning in The Gambia
• Explored similarities and differences between schools
• Collected and sent books to help build the school’s library
• Reflected on the value of sharing and supporting others

This project has inspired curiosity, empathy, and a sense of global responsibility. We are proud of Year 3’s efforts to make a meaningful connection and contribute to education beyond our own community.

Year 4 at Blowers Green Primary School are proudly supporting Birmingham Children’s Hospital – a local charity that provides vital care and support to children and families across the region.

The children have been learning about the hospital’s incredible work and its impact on young patients and their loved ones. Their activities have included:

• Exploring how the hospital helps children and families in times of need
• Creating posters and presentations to raise awareness
• Planning fundraising events to support the hospital’s services
• Reflecting on the importance of kindness, health, and community care

This project has helped Year 5 develop empathy, gratitude, and a deeper understanding of how we can support others in meaningful ways. We are proud of their commitment to making a difference close to home.

Year 5 at Blowers Green Primary School are actively supporting the Black Country Foodbank – a vital local organisation that helps families in crisis by providing emergency food and essentials.

As part of their learning and community engagement, Year 5 have:

• Organised Harvest donations from across the school, collecting a wide range of food and household items
• Take part in educational visits to learn more about how the foodbank operates and who it supports
• Reflected on the importance of helping others and being active citizens in their local community

This project has helped pupils understand the impact of poverty and the power of collective action. We are proud of Year 5’s compassion and commitment to supporting families in need.

This Harvest season, the whole school community at Blowers Green Primary School came together to support the Black Country Foodbank, donating a wide range of food and essential items to help local families in need.

As part of our class charity initiative, Year 6 at Blowers Green Primary School are supporting the Alzheimer’s Society – a charity close to the hearts of many in our school community, with strong personal links among staff and families.

Year 6 have been learning about dementia and the vital work the Alzheimer’s Society does to support individuals and fund research. Their involvement has included:

• Raising awareness through class discussions and presentations
• Organising fundraising activities to support ongoing research and care
• Reflecting on the importance of compassion, memory, and understanding

This project has helped pupils connect learning with real-life issues and develop empathy for those affected by dementia. We are proud of Year 6’s thoughtful approach and their commitment to making a difference.
